  About The Author

  Prologue

That last great depression brought millions of people to their knees economically. As is the way of it there were winners along with the multitude of losers. Some people just kept on winning through all the death and the fear and the uncertainty, making money, hand over fist.

Society needed a way to make sure that those who had everything didn't take advantage of those that had nothing. So we regulated the two oldest industries – sex and food. We kept food on people's plates by government decree and we made sure that those that chose to sell sex were safeguarded and paid fairly; the agencies were born to oversee it. Delphic is one such agency.

Being humans we naturally went to town on the whole selling sex thing. We built stories around it and we put in place a multitude of precautions for both those who give and those who receive. As a society, if we were selling sex we were damn well going to do it properly.

We call the buyers Emptores and the sellers Venditores, I think we were trying to be classy, going all ancient Greek. We instigated rules, psychological evaluations, timed contracts with clear terms, cooling-off periods, mandatory debrief - oversight and accountability throughout.

Our unofficial motto, "you can't buy people, just time".

Twenty years down the line the agencies that sell sex are thriving businesses and if not totally respectable, then they are at least understood and accepted and they have even become the trope of many a romantic movie.

It's not so romantic for those who sell themselves. It's scary at the start, sometimes boring in the execution and it's always different from what they expected it to be.

Managing it all is rewarding though and I don't just mean financially. People have always been fascinating but when they lay their sexuality out there it becomes downright engrossing. And every now and then a story catches your eye as you administer the consensual exchange of bodily fluid and it makes you smile because litigate all you want love will, like a flower, find a way to bloom.

This is one of those stories, I have others.

  Chapter One

"Hello, Richard, it's lovely to meet you, so nice to put a face to a set of forms and psych tests," Ms. Sara said as they shook hands.

"Thank you for seeing me," he replied automatically and hoped his handshake hadn't been too sweaty with nerves.

"Please, have a seat," she said, gesturing to the two chairs in front of her desk as she gracefully slid into her seat and smiled encouragingly at him. Despite her severe business attire and firm handshake her eyes were kind and her smile soft.

He chose the one closest to him and sat down, folding his hands in his lap, resisting the urge to hide their tremor by pushing them between his thighs. The room was bright, a large window looking out over gardens leading down to an ornamental lake and the chair he sat in encouraged him to lean back and relax. He remained perched on the edge.

The décor was a layering of light pastels, the palest of linens matched with a green so subtle it was almost white and the pictures on the walls were all gentle landscapes. Not really the environment one expected when selling such personal services, Richard thought, failing to be calmed. Maybe he would have felt better if naked genitals and intimate embraces were front and center but then that may have upset the well-heeled Emptores.

"There's no reason to be nervous," Ms. Sara said, "Here at Delphic, we do our utmost to match you with compatible Emptores, people that will not only stand by the absolute letter of a contract but the heart of them as well. There's a reason we have the highest referral rating from both Emptores and Venditores of any matchmaking company in the country, we may cater to the widest variety of kink but we also spend a great deal of time and effort to ensure compatibility on both sides and we have the most thorough introduction and induction process."

"I am aware," Richard said, preferring not to go over the company pitch again. He'd researched the various matchmaking services available as thoroughly as possible, too much rested on this, and he knew Delphic was the best. That didn't help him quash the fear. He was scared of what he was about to do but even more scared that he wouldn't be any good at it and all this would be for nothing.

"Good, then you must know that it is in our best interests to represent your best interests," she said, and he nodded. "As I said, there's no reason to be nervous. We'll take care of you," Ms. Sara assured him, "But I am concerned that you are seeking the most lucrative of contracts on your first time out."

Richard made a noncommittal sound and tried to maintain eye contact with the striking woman across the desk from him, aiming for a calm and composed front.

She didn't appear reassured and bit her lower lip before she sighed and she opened his folder. "In my opinion, it would be best to start with a 14-day non-residential contract, which is the minimum length of time we allow." She slid a sheet of paper across the desk towards him, "You would, as you've already agreed to, be willing to both the receiving and giving of oral and anal sex, and that would give you a weekly rate of $6,000-"

"$6,000 a week isn't enough money," Richard said, pulling the sheet closer to him, rapidly scanning the rows of numbers, "That was why I wanted the residential contract."

She frowned. "I know, but it may be worth considering non-residential, just in the short term, whilst you are so new to the process."

"Even $12,000 isn't enough," he said, pointing to the last rate on the sheet, which involved living with the Emptor the entire two weeks with a maximum of sex three times a day. He hadn't been sure what to expect, he knew that residential paid the most but even that wasn't enough. His heart sank as he realized he needed to revise his plan.

"Richard," Ms. Sara said leaning forward and catching his disappointed gaze, "You know that becoming a Venditor is not a 'get-rich-quick' scheme. The rate we charge is regulated and is the same across the whole country; we can't change it. We do encourage our Emptores to tip at the end of a contract and many tip generously, they can afford to, but he or she is unlikely to give you more than
-"

"When I was researching, I saw rates as high as $15,000 per week," Richard said, the paper crackling in his hands as his fist tightened. He'd been hoping to pay off his Father's hospital bill in full and get ahead of the Care Home monthly copay before graduate school started in the fall. The numbers that were disappointing him were the kind of money most people his age only dreamed about but it wouldn't be enough to get his Father into the kind of long term care facility he needed, not with having to save some money for school and live in the meantime.

The situation wasn't desperate yet which was why he had had time to formulate this plan, but if this wasn't going to work out then he had wasted a lot of what was available to him. The research, the interviews, the psych tests, all that had taken weeks, and now it looked like it wasn't going to be enough. His thoughts began to spiral into despair.

"Look, Richard, it depends on the circumstances. Longer contracts do bring in higher rates--" Ms. Sara's voice cut through his rising panic and he latched onto her words.

"So let's do that," he said. "I can sign for four months if we start this week."

"I understand you can," she said, looking at him sympathetically, "but first-time Venditores are only allowed to sign a 14-day contract to make sure you're comfortable with everything and that your Emptor is pleased with your services. As it is, it might take a while to find a good match for you, and then after your initial contract, we have a mandatory 14 day cooling down period before you can take on another contract."

"I can't wait that long!" he said, leaning forward, despair hitting him again, a two-week break, and then another search for a contract. That would greatly reduce his earning time between now and school commencement. How had he not realized this when doing his research? Too focussed on the money and the sex, his brain helpfully supplied.

Richard felt himself start to panic. This had been his last resort. His Father had only been able to afford the most limited of health insurance after his Mother had finally passed away and whilst he had been covered for the surgery he needed the copay was massive and then to be hit with a diagnosis of Alzheimer's, it had been one blow after another.

If he was to have any sort of quality of life for the time he had left he needed a stable care home and Richard would sacrifice anything to see he had that. His Father had nursed his Mother with unswerving devotion through her suffering; he deserved everything Richard could get him during his final years.

"Please," he said, and some of the worry and stress he was feeling must have been reflected on his face because Ms. Sara's expression softened even further. "Isn't there another contract I can do?"

She bit her lower lip again and fiddled with the folder. "I do have . . . a contract. It would pay significantly more, and it does meet the regulatory time period."

  "How much more?"

"$15,000 a week, with a guaranteed $5,000 bonus if you make it to the end of the contract. There is also an option for renewal."

"I'll take it," he said immediately. It still wasn't perfect, but it was a lot more than the previous amount.

"You need to think about this before agreeing," Ms. Sara said, her tone firm. "This is not a vanilla contract, this is a BDSM contract, and I would not even be mentioning it to you if your psych evaluation hadn't shown such clear markers for submission although you didn't highlight any experience of it in your sexual history form."

That surprised him; he had psych markers for submission?

"Also," Ms. Sara went on, "The Emptor has requested final say, so there will be an interview in which you will go to the Emptores' house with a Delphic representative and he will give you a test to see if you meet his requirements, a service request most likely."

Richard wasn't listening; he was still trying to process the submissive markers revelation. He had never had kinky sex in his life. How could he display submissive traits?

"You will, of course, be compensated for your time." Ms. Sara went on, "Finally, this is a full-time contract, which means you will be living with the Emptor at his house and be available to him at all times--although he cannot expect sexual services from you more than three times a day." Richard nodded blankly. "He can, however, request that you dress a certain way or act in a specific manner. Do you have any questions?"

"I--yes," he said, his mind whirling, "When you say BDSM, how extreme is the Emptor . . . what kind of things would he...?"

"Naturally he has been most stringently vetted; we are particularly robust in our assessment of contracts with kink components and they always have additional oversight during the contract.

"This Emptor is mainly interested in orgasm control but he has also specified impact play and like all Dominants, he will seek to push limits and try to press your buttons psychologically." She rolled her eyes as if the inner working of the minds of Dominants was a well-known thing. "There are more details in the folder and of course he would discuss his expectations in greater depth with you if you're selected."

Richard swallowed and felt something low down in his stomach tighten like he needed to pee. "And when would the interview take place?"

"By the end of the week. We've already scheduled a couple of other Venditores who are interested."

His brows furrowed at the thought of competition. He wasn't sure if he wanted the contract, far from it, but he also didn't want someone else to take it from him.

"And does interviewing mean I have to accept the contract if the Emptor picks me?" he asked cautiously.

"Not at all," Ms. Sara patted the folder. "I know you had a lot of paperwork to go over today--don't worry, we'll send you home with a copy of everything--but company policy is that you can walk away from any Emptor until you sign the contract. We don't penalize you for having your preferences. Your consent and how comfortable you are in giving your consent is our priority."

"I understand," Richard said. "I don't want to get ahead of myself, but one more question, if the Emptor asks to renew, is there still that waiting period?"

"Yes, there is. We always require ten days at a minimum between contracts, but after the first one especially, we've found that the break is extremely important. We value our Venditores, and we don't want to ignore their mental health. Many people need that time to decide if they would like to continue. It's not for everyone, although many find it rewarding," something in her voice made him suspect she had been a Venditor before she joined Delphic as an employee, "whether they decide to sell their services a few times or many. That being said, the rates do go up with renewal, and Emptores are expected to give gifts to Venditores they've seen more than once."

It still wasn't a complete solution, but that much money would buy him time and peace of mind. He would just have to be careful about the terms they negotiated. Even if he didn't last the entire two weeks, as long as it was the Emptor who broke the contract and not him he'd still get the entire payment. It was more than he made in two months right now. It'd be worth a little potential discomfort to be in that position.

"I'll do it," he said, and Ms. Sara smiled, a subtle gleam in her eye.

"Wonderful. I'll set up the interview and forward your paperwork."

  Chapter Two

The drive to the Emptor's house took almost an hour. It was well outside of the urban center and Richard grew increasingly tense and quiet the more rural the location became.

What small service would the Emptor ask of him as part of the interview? Would it be sexual? It was bound to be sexual! Would it be something he had done before? God, he wished he had done more research, had more sex, why the hell did he think he could do this?

His mind swirled with the details of the kinks of the Emptor as laid out in the paperwork – orgasm denial, impact play, humiliation, chastity, penetration by toys, penetration by the tongue, fingers, and penis, deep throating.

He didn't see how hard it could be to not orgasm for a couple of weeks, he wasn't a teenager. And the impact play didn't seem too scary although maybe "play" was a misnomer. It was t
he humiliation aspect that worried him most if he was honest, he didn't know what that meant exactly.

His companion, a sweet and bubbly blonde by the name of Ms. Maisie did everything to put him at his ease as she maneuvered the car onto quieter and quieter roads. She kept up a light stream of chat, even singing along to the radio, but by the time they pulled into a wide driveway that wound through mature oaks, Richard was struggling to still the tremble in his hands.

"You'll be fine," said Ms. Maisie as she pulled up in front of an impressive long low building, the exterior a mix of dry-stack stone and cedar siding. A copper paneled cantilevered roof and expansive windows caught the late afternoon sunlight causing the house to glow.

It was understated impressive and Richard knew it must have cost a fortune but then Emptores were by their very existence seriously rich. This was a world Richard wasn't used to, he didn't come from poverty but this was old-world money, made a fortune, and kept it rich.

"Do I look okay?" Richard asked smoothing his tie down over his pinstripe button-down shirt.

"You look perfectly fine, perfectly natural, and normal."

  "Thanks, I think."

Ms. Maisie smiled at him, "We get all sorts, Richard," she said, "But that whole secretly sexy everyman look you have going on, it's perfect and that hair, that mouth, the body." She waved a hand up and down his almost six-foot frame. "You're no twink or obvious brat that's for sure but those intense blue eyes and that little smile, any Dom worth his leathers would want to be the one to put you on your knees."

Richard didn't understand any of that but he tried to take heart from her enthusiasm. "Do you think he'll like me?"

Ms. Maisie unclipped her seat belt. "I think he'll be fascinated by you." She slid elegantly out of the car before bending down to look in at him, she was smiling widely, "You don't look like a sub Richard. You look strong and professional and in control. That's catnip to a certain type of Dom. Come on, we can't be late."
